Thank you to those parents who manage to make it to out PIE event. It was great to have a chance to share with you how we will be teaching Maths this year. One thing we talked about was the resources we use in class to support addition and subtraction. This week for homework, we would like you and your child to have a go at making your own Maths resources. You could:
-create a bead string with twenty pieces of pasta threaded onto a piece of string. You could even paint ten red and ten white and use this to solve addition and subtraction statements under twenty.
-collect 2p, 5p and 10p pieces and a tin to create your own times table counting game. One person chooses the types of coins to be dropped into the tine whilst the other closes their eyes. They have to count the coins being dropped in and calculate the total worth by counting in twos, fives and tens.
-group 10 straws/twigs together with elastic bands and have some loose straws/twigs to create your own tens and ones. Your child can then use this to represent numbers under 100. EG 26 would be two bundles of ten and six loose straws.
If you can come up with your own way of representing numbers, we would love to see what you come up with!
